Romania might not be a country that is on an awful lot of radars when it comes to eCommerce success stories but perhaps they should be as eCommerce in the European country has recorded growth from 2014’s 1.1 billion euros to approximately 1.4 billion euros in 2015.
It’s been reported through a number of eCommerce agency news that there are now roughly 6.7 million Romanians with experience of online shopping, while 1.4 million residents took advantage of services on a mobile device to make an online purchase.
The estimated figures in relation to the value of the online retail industry in Romania has come from GPeC, a significant eCommerce event in Romania, tied in with a big online shops community. GPeC recently stated that some companies even consider the value to be closer to 1.5 billion euros as opposed to the declared 1.4 billion.
At present, Romania has in the region of 19.8 million inhabitants, out of which 13 million are aged 16 to 55 years old. The country boasts 11 million internet users and of them, 6.7 million have shopped online a minimum of once in their life.
Although most Romanians prefer to shop online using their PC or laptop, the use of mobile devices, much like here in the UK and other European countries, has grown radically in the last 12 months. In 2015, 1.4 million Romanian online shoppers used a mobile device to make a purchase, while 850,000 made use of a mobile shopping app to complete an order online.
“If we look at the last months of 2015, over 50% of the key online shop’s traffic has been generated by mobile devices”, GPeC explained.
